Earnest states “he finds it difficult to recall a time when he was not involved in music.” He states he participated in the first group while attending High School. Earnest states he enjoys singing because music is a healing force and it uplifts his spirit.
John Edwards - Baritone One of the Three Founders of Next Level, backup & occasional lead singer, retired, married, father and grandfather.
John’s love of music was inspired in his formative years – his father and sister were ministers, and his mother and siblings either played instruments or sang in choirs or groups. John states he has been blessed and has sang with two family groups and other groups. John states: I enjoy singing because, the songs are my living testimonies of how God has blessed me in the past, and how he continues to bless and keep me."
James Smith - 2nd Tenor Born in Dallas TX and reared in Boston, MA . James interest in music began in Jr. High School as a Glee Club singer. He also plays clarinet. While in high school James and three other students formed a singing group known as the Elgents. During his college years he performed in musical shows such as the Wiz, West Side Story - while at the university he studied music and started singing Chamber music.
James has also sang Jazz with the Um Biance singers. James then made his last transition - answered his call to sing gospel. James has sang with The Singing Stars of Boston. He presently sings tenor with Next Level Gospel and states he enjoys it very much.
Alice Edwards, Administrative/Booking Manager Alice assumed the role of Administrative/Booking Manager for Next Level Gospel, LLC in May 2006. She is a married, mother and grandmother.
The primary characteristics she had as a child has continued to be her guiding principles today. She usually has three projects going at all times. Alice also states she loves cooking, designing new spaces, and gardening. She also embraces the commitment she has made to Next Level Gospel.
